אחד הקטעים הדרמטיים ביותר של שביל פסגות הבלקן, טיול ארוך ומתגמל זה חוצה בין מונטנגרו אל אלבניה דרך הלב הפראי של ההרים הארורים. מוקף בפסגות אבן גיר מתנשאות ובנוף אלפיני בתולי, הוא מציע חוויה בלתי נשכחת בהר גבוה. המסע מתחיל בכפר של Vusanje, לכיוון מערב אל עמק רופויאן המרשים. השביל עוקב אחר מסלול ייעור לאורך כ-4.5 ק"מ דרך קרקעית העמק הרחבה עד שהוא מגיע לצומת שבו מסתעף המסלול שמאלה לכיוון בוני אי יזרצ'ס.

עלייה קבועה לאורך מסלול 4WD מובילה ל-Katun Zastan (Zastan Karaula), שם עדיין עומדים שרידי צריף צבאי יוגוסלבי לשעבר - עדים אילמים לגבול אלבניה-יוגוסלביה שנשמר בעבר בכבדות. From Zastan Karaula, the marked trail climbs southwest through dense beech forest.
After around 2.2 km, the route emerges above the tree line, just a few hundred meters before the Montenegro–Albania border. Suddenly, the stunning Buni i Jezerces Lakes appear beneath the towering cliffs of the Jezerca massif — a breathtaking alpine panorama. These pristine glacial lakes are fed by underground springs formed from melting snow cascading down the surrounding limestone peaks. During the snowmelt season, up to four lakes may be visible, though some gradually dry out under the summer sun.
This remote alpine basin is a favourite spot for wild camping, offering crystal-clear
waters, star-filled skies, and complete tranquillity in one of the Balkans’ most spectacular mountain settings.

One of the most spectacular sections of the Peaks of the Balkans Trail, this panoramic stage offers breathtaking views and an unforgettable ridge-top experience along the border of Montenegro and Albania, offering different options such as walking the classic loop ending in the same country Grebaje Montenegro or crossing the border right from the ridge to Lepushë Albania. The trail begins in the stunning Grebaje Valley, a popular mountain destination surrounded by dramatic limestone peaks. From here, the path heads northwest through peaceful birch and beech forests on the Montenegrin side.
After approximately 2.6 km, you rise above the tree line and continue southwest toward the ridge. As you approach the summit zone, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic—vast alpine landscapes unfold in every direction.
Walk along the spectacular ridge connecting Talijanka Peak/Maja Vajushës (2,057 m) and Popadija Peak (2,030 m)
Standing proudly opposite one another, these two peaks offer a truly unique hiking experience. The trail literally follows the borderline between Montenegro and Albania—once heavily guarded during the Communist era—now open to hikers seeking freedom, adventure, and 360° panoramic views. From Maja Vajushës/Talijanka, the trail descends east toward the col and gently returns to forest terrain, forming a scenic “lollipop” loop that combines ridge walking with woodland tranquillity.
After your hike, unwind in Grebaje Valley’s welcoming guesthouses, chalets, restaurants, and cafés. Enjoy a refreshing drink while taking in the surrounding peaks—an ideal way to end an unforgettable mountain day.
During the high season, the valley is lively, especially with local visitors.
