Peaks of the Balkans is een bekende zomerroute die, na te zijn vermeld op reispagina's als The New York Times, Financial Times in de VS en Europa, en de Singapore Times in Azi\u00eb, een populaire bestemming is geworden voor veel wandelaars. Zodra de sneeuw is verdwenen, en soms zelfs eerder, totdat de dagen korter worden, trekken wandelaars over de hele wereld naar deze routes. Balkan Natural Adventure has a tour called Peaks of the Balkans in Winter<\/a> and the Austrian company Pure Mountain<\/a> offers this trail to skiers in winter. The trail is shorter but it goes through the best parts of the mountain that can be used for skiing. De volledige route tijdens het winterseizoen, de Peaks of the Balkans-route, is echter een uitdagende onderneming. De barre winterweersomstandigheden in deze afgelegen bergen, vari\u00ebrend van 1000 tot 2600 meter hoogte, vormen de eerste uitdaging. Bovendien wordt de uitdaging nog groter door de sluiting van pensions in deze gebieden vanwege weinig belangstelling en moeilijkheden bij de exploitatie zonder winterinfrastructuur. Ski enthusiasts, adventurous entrepreneurs, and mountaineers have explored and made some sections skiable, walkable, and visitable even in the middle of winter. Trails and sections are becoming increasingly popular among enthusiasts. Xavier Carrard from the Swiss mountaineering cooperative Helyum<\/a> and Shams Eybert-Berard<\/a>, a French guide from Grenoble, have already skied some parts of the trail. Guest House Leonardi has winterized some rooms, while Guest House Gacaferri has started specializing in welcoming winter tours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Het lokale bedrijf Balkan Natural Adventure, leider op het gebied van skitochten op de Balkan, heeft al enkele routes voor hun klanten georganiseerd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Er is geen exact parcours in omloop, aangezien ski\u00ebrs onderzoek doen naar de beste delen voor de sneeuw. De secties met het meeste potentieel liggen echter dicht bij de grens tussen de bergen Decani en Peja (Kosovo), Babino Polje en Bogicevica (Montenegro) en de valleien van Doberdol en Sylbica (Albani\u00eb). Deze delen van de Peaks of the Balkans-route zijn rijk aan lange, gematigde hellingen vol sneeuw die tot begin mei aanhouden.
