Peaks of the Balkans is een bekende zomerroute die, na te zijn vermeld op reispagina's als The New York Times, Financial Times in de VS en Europa, en de Singapore Times in Azi\u00eb, een populaire bestemming is geworden voor veel wandelaars. Zodra de sneeuw is verdwenen, en soms zelfs eerder, totdat de dagen korter worden, trekken wandelaars van over de hele wereld naar deze routes. Er is echter altijd de vraag: hoe zit het met de toppen van de Balkan in de winter?<\/p>\n

De Peaks of the Balkans-route tijdens het winterseizoen is een uitdagende onderneming. De barre winterweersomstandigheden in deze afgelegen bergen, vari\u00ebrend van 1000 tot 2600 meter hoogte, vormen de eerste uitdaging. Bovendien wordt de uitdaging nog groter door de sluiting van pensions in deze gebieden vanwege weinig belangstelling en moeilijkheden bij de exploitatie zonder winterinfrastructuur.<\/p>\n

Bovendien kunnen de trailafstanden van 12 tot 20 km, die door ruw terrein lopen, lawinegevaar met zich meebrengen. Hieraan moet het feit worden toegevoegd dat sommige van deze onderzoeken nooit vanuit dit perspectief zijn geanalyseerd. Het gebrek aan telefoonontvangst maakt de uitdaging van een parcours van 192 km nog ingewikkelder.<\/p>\n

Dit waren obstakels in het verleden, en de meeste zijn dat nu nog steeds, maar sommige dingen zijn veranderd sinds 2019, toen we het eerste bericht over dit onderwerp in deze blog schreven.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Wat is haalbaar in de winter vanaf 2023?<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Ski enthusiasts, adventurous entrepreneurs, and mountaineers have explored and made some sections skiable, walkable, and visitable even in the middle of winter. Trails and sections are becoming increasingly popular among enthusiasts. Xavier Carrard from the Swiss mountaineering cooperative Helyum<\/a> and Shams Eybert-Berard<\/a>, a French guide from Grenoble, have already skied some parts of the trail. Guest House Leonardi has winterized some rooms, while Guest House Gacaferri has started specializing in welcoming winter tours.<\/p>\n

Het lokale bedrijf Balkan Natural Adventure, leider op het gebied van skitochten op de Balkan, heeft al enkele routes voor hun klanten georganiseerd.<\/p>\n

Er is geen exact parcours in omloop, aangezien ski\u00ebrs onderzoek doen naar de beste delen voor de sneeuw. De secties met het meeste potentieel liggen echter dicht bij de grens tussen de bergen Decani en Peja (Kosovo), Babino Polje en Bogicevica (Montenegro) en de valleien van Doberdol en Sylbica (Albani\u00eb). Deze delen van de Peaks of the Balkans-route zijn rijk aan lange, gematigde hellingen vol sneeuw die tot begin mei aanhouden. Bij de voorwaarde hoort het aanbod; het zijn de pensions in deze streken die winteraccommodatie bieden.<\/p>\n

Het verschil in 2019, toen we de eerste foto maakten van dit mogelijke winterpad, Doberdol was onvoorstelbaar omdat de pensions niet winterklaar waren en Gacaferri Guest house niet bestond.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

For wilderness hunters, the years 2024 and 2025 offer the best possibilities to experience something unique. A bit later may also work; however, with the growth of tourism by about 10 percent a year, if you prefer the wild, you should act quickly.
