Kosovo\u2019s own <a href=\"https:\/\/utmb.world\/runner\/2971273.ilir.zhegrova\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/utmb.world\/runner\/2971273.ilir.zhegrova\" target=\"_self\">Ilir\u00a0Zhegrova<\/a>, a seasoned ultra-runner, calls the Peaks of the Balkans \u201cChamonix with a smile\u201d \u2013 a testament to the trail\u2019s wild beauty and the genuine hospitality of the region.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>De Peaks of the Balkans is een 192 kilometer lang circuit dat door Albani\u00eb, Kosovo en Montenegro slingert. Hier dwingt het parcours je om je grenzen te verkennen en te testen\u201d, legde Ilir uit, waarbij hij benadrukte dat het parcours niet alleen een race is, het is een diepgaand avontuur. De route is niet voor angsthazen. \u201cDe beste manier om je voor te bereiden is door op vergelijkbaar terrein te trainen, met steile beklimmingen en ruige afdalingen\u201d, adviseerde hij. Hij benadrukte dat hardlopers kracht moeten opbouwen in zowel hun benen als hun romp. Ilir herinnerde zich zijn eigen ervaring en zei dat er zelfs voor toplopers delen van het parcours zijn waar \u201cpower walking\u201d noodzakelijk wordt. Traditionele maaltijden, warme gesprekken en zelfs uitnodigingen om lokale gebruiken te delen, transformeren de slopende run in een gedenkwaardige culturele uitwisseling.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Ilir highlighted some of the most spectacular sections of the trail. For instance, the climb from Qafa e Pej\u00ebs in Kosovo to <a href=\"https:\/\/peaksofthebalkans.info\/nl\/theth-albania\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"225\" target=\"_self\">Theth <\/a>in Albania is renowned for its dramatic alpine views, while the segment between <a href=\"https:\/\/peaksofthebalkans.info\/nl\/babino-polje-montenegro\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"277\" target=\"_self\">Babino Polje<\/a> in Montenegro and Valbona in Albania is celebrated for its high-altitude ridge running under stunning sunrise skies. Another favorite is the crossing from Dob\u00ebrdol in Albania to Milishevc in Kosovo, where the sweeping vistas across three countries leave an indelible mark on every runner.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Timing is essential for tackling the Peaks of the Balkans. Ilir advises that the best period to run the trail is between June and September, <a href=\"https:\/\/peaksofthebalkans.info\/nl\/toppen-van-de-balkan-wanneer-je-moet-gaan\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"533\" target=\"_self\">(When to go)<\/a> when the weather is most stable and mountain passes are clear. Although July and August offer the challenge of hot temperatures, early June or mid-September may provide a quieter experience with cooler conditions.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n<!-- divi:heading -->\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wij zullen; wees daar met weinig verbeteringen<\/h2>\n<!-- \/divi:heading -->\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>Volgens Ilir staan de toppen van de Balkan op het punt een belangrijke ultra-trailbestemming te worden. Met verbeteringen zoals betere routemarkeringen en aangewezen controlepunten voor hydratatie en voeding zou de regio zelfs kunnen wedijveren met de meest gevestigde races in Europa.
